Response
Respond to an invitation in a timely fashion. Invitations should include either a phone number or reply card with a “respond by” date. If there is not a reply card, either write a note or phone the host. It is up to you to make your own travel arrangements if you are coming from out of town.
For weddings, the bride and/or groom usually reserve a block of rooms at a local hotel, motel or bed & breakfast and will include information for out-of-town guests. It is up to the guests to call and make their own reservations and pay for their rooms.
Gifts
If you attend a special occasion party, such as a wedding, birthday, or bar/bat mitzvah, you should bring a gift. If you are unable to attend, you are not obligated to send a gift.
Bring Children?
You should only bring children to an event if the invitation has invited them. If they are not invited to the event, it is up to you to make arrangements for their care while you are at the event.
Bring a Date?
If the invitation is addressed to you and guest, it is ok to bring a date. If you are engaged to be married it is appropriate to call the host and ask if you may bring your fiance’.
Thank You
A lot of planning goes into events and it is a nice gesture to either send a note or call the host to let them know how much you enjoyed the party.
